LOCAL
TOUR PERMITS... A LOCAL TOUR PERMIT is required whenever
a unit (den, patrol, pack, troop, team, post, ship) will leave its normal
meeting place and travel by car when carpooling is used for more than
a 10-mile distance, and the destination is less than 500 miles one way.
For example: A den is going to visit a fire station 11 miles
away from their normal meeting place, and one or two parents are talking
all the boys in the cars -- a tour permit is required. If that same
den is meeting at the fire station and the boys are being individually
transported by their parents, a tour permit is not required.
A troop is picking up food bags for National Good Turn Day and is not
transporting boys further than 10 miles away, NO TOUR PERMIT IS REQUIRED.
Please use your honest opinion. If you feel that there will be a lot
of freeway or highway driving involved in your trip, fill out the Tour
Permit. When in doubt, fill it out.
For overnight activities, a tour permit is required regardless of the
method of transportation (car pooling or individual drivers).
A local
tour permit should be filed two weeks in advance. Tour
permits may be faxed into either service center for approval. However,
please note that many state/national parks ask for the local tour permit,
and will not accept a facsimile copy. Plan ahead for such contingencies.
NATIONAL TOUR
PERMITS...
A NATIONAL TOUR PERMIT is required when a unit's destination
is more than 500 miles one way from their home. These permits
are issued by the Southern Region Office, upon endorsement by the local
council. NATIONAL TOUR PERMITS MUST BE FILED A MINIMUM OF FOUR WEEKS
IN ADVANCE OF THE DEPARTURE DATE. FACSIMILE COPIES MAY NOT BE USED FOR
NATIONAL TOUR PERMITS.
